Profile

The vibrant department in the institution was established in 1969. The Under-Graduate Programme (B.Sc.) was started in 1979. The Department offers P.G. programme from 2005 and was elevated as a Research Department in 2012. The Department has highly qualified staff members with seven Ph.D., and three of them are pursuing Ph.D. The Department today is an active beehive of research in a wide variety of frontier areas with high quality faculty members carrying out both theoretical and experimental research in various fields such as Crystal Growth, Vibrational Spectroscopy, Thin Films, Nanotechnology and Liquid State Physics. The faculty members have acquired 5 minor research projects funded by UGC.

The Department has garnered funds from DST, SERB, for its Minor Projects, Conferences, Workshops and Seminars. Most of the members of the staff are the members of academic or scientific bodies, conveners of various programs, resource persons, reviewers of journals. The faculty members are very active in extension programmes, in reaching out to society. The Department has a library to serve the needs of the faculty and students of the Department. Department has been regularly producing university ranks in UG and PG. Systematic learning, application of knowledge and skills acquired. To grow with core values and concern on the environment and society globally. To bring out quality students ready for teaching and research.

The department is always very keen to cater to the varied expectations of the students. Anticipating a new era of research and scientific excellence, the department takes constant and steady initiatives towards the up gradation of infrastructural facilities to carry out advanced research. The department takes pride in having laboratory facilities to carry out experimental research. The Instrumentation Center is equipped with an advanced analytical equipment Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectrometer (FTIR), sponsored under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan.

The Physics Association forum for students to develop their professional skills and research aptitude, where the programmes are organized by the students and for the students. Events organized by the department, encourages young students to disseminate and enhance their knowledge in the emerging fields. The department also conducts periodical seminars, workshops and conferences. Students involve themselves in intercollegiate competitions and have brought laurels to the department.The members of faculty have received funds for major and minor research projects from government agencies, since 2009. As a result, more than 100 research papers have been published in peer reviewed national and international journals with commendable impact factors.
